Gyeongju is home to some of the country’s most interesting scenery, but even in a full day of riding it’s just a bit too far from Busan to be able to take the time to enjoy landmarks and the scenery. About 20 kilometers south of Gyeongju, however, you’ll find one of the most famous UNESCO sites of Korea: the Bulguksa temple. The temple is at the foot of Tohamsan, an 8 kilometer climb that even the heavier riders will enjoy, as it’s a steady 5% climb. When you’ll finish the climb – after about 40 corners – you could seize the opportunity to park your bike and check out the Seokguram Buddha Grotto, or simply zip back and enjoy the way back to Busan, using almost the entire length of the Ulsan Taehwa bike path. Alternatively, you could start this ride at the Ulsan KTX station.
