The industrial city of Pohang is famous for the world’s second-largest steel plant in the world (Posco), and is therefore important for the history of modern Korea. The Posco area itself is huge and an interesting site to cycle through, and the city is worth a visit for its museums and parks. For cyclists, Pohang is most famous because of its Homigot Sunrise Square, facing a huge hand statue coming out of the water (the Hand of Harmony). The hilly terrain in the Homigot Cape area is challenging but scenic.
If you want to ride to Pohang directly, check out this alternative route over Gyeongju (128.4 km / 1.153 m).
